Four Generations on a Cambridgeshire Farm
It was over a hundred years ago – in 1919 to be precise – that our Great Granddad, Fred Bradford, came home from World War 1 and decided all he wanted to do was grow stuff and rear animals at Heath Farm.
The small farm shop was set up in the late 1970’s by Colin (Fred’s Grandson) and Lesley, and it bumped along for around 25 years selling our eggs, potatoes and meat. Then, in 2004, the next generation took up the reins, with Charles Bradford deciding to swap his City of London suit for a pair of old wellies and his brother Marcus returning to ground level after graduating from university.
So today, the fourth generation of Bradfords are still watching stuff grow, but that small farm outlet has been transformed into The Gog: a thriving, exciting foodie heaven, staffed by enthusiasts and committed to bringing the most wonderful produce from the local area and around the UK, to its happy customers.
Our shop might now spread across three buildings – greengrocery and butchery, deli and cheese shop, and wine – but in every single respect we work with one aim: to create a wonderful environment for the best food and drink around, offering it to our wonderful customers with pride in its provenance and a real understanding of its potential utter yumminess.
From field to fork, from Cambridge to the world: what started out as an essential diversification project to put a small farm on a sound footing, soon turned into a love affair with exquisite – and mostly – British food.
Charles left his career in the City of London in 2004 to help his parents run the farm.
Colin & Lesley ran the farm until 2004 when their sons Charles and Marcus took over so that they could retire.
Marcus returned to the farm in 2004 after graduating from the University of Edinburgh.
